Renuka Singh was the player of the match for India in the final of the recently-concluded Women’s Asia Cup 2022 against Sri Lanka. She took three wickets inside the powerplay to break the back of Sri Lankan batting. The Lankan Lions were reduced to 18/5, thanks to Singh’s spell and two run-outs by the Indian fielders. The Lankans were restricted to 65/9 at the end of the innings.

The Women In Blue won the game in style as they chased down the total in just 8.3 overs. Vice-captain, Smriti Mandhana scored an unbeaten 51 off 25 balls and ended the game with a six. After the game, Renuka Singh was adjudged ‘Player Of The Match’ for her spell. However, she was reluctant to speak to the commentator conducting the post-match ceremony.

After all, the pacer had to speak in English, a language which is not her stronger suit. Also, the team didn’t had any translator at that moment. However, skipper Harmanpreet Kaur and her team encouraged their protagonist of the final to go ahead. The video of the incident is going viral.

During the post-match ceremony, Singh expressed her happiness to come good in the final. She also pointed her not being able to do well in the previous games. The right-arm pacer added that she focused on her basics and got success in the title clash.

“Very happy because the last few games I didn’t bowl well. I practiced with my coach and the staff, and they really helped me get back my rhythm. Just focussed on my basics and got success. My whole team supported me really well, and credit should go to my captain, coach, and the staff,” she said in the post-match interview.
