Watch: Waqar Younis Laughs Off When Gautam Gambhir Compared Some Indian Players With Virat Kohli During Asia Cup 2022
Since 2019, Virat Kohli was failing to bat at his level-best as he was failing to score a hundred for India across all formats. But, in the Asia Cup 2022, Virat finally managed to put an end to his century drought. Against Afghanistan, he scored his maiden T20I ton. It was also his long-waited 71st international ton for India.
However, now a video went viral on the internet where former Indian batter, Gautam Gambhir was seen comparing some Indian players with Virat Kohli. He was saying that no players would have survived their place in the squad by not scoring a hundred for three years apart from Kohli. But, former Pakistani pacer, Waqar Younis was also there. He laughed off Gambhir’s claim as he said that no players can be compared with Virat Kohli.
Here is the shared video on Twitter:

“You can not really compare Virat Kohli with any one of them” – Waqar Younis to Gautam Gambhir
While speaking during a post-match presentation, Gambhir said that any player would have survived three years without a hundred. He said: “Three years is a very long time. It’s not three months. And I’m not trying to be critical of him but he has earned that just because he has got loads of runs in the past. But let’s be fair and absolutely honest, I don’t think anyone in the dressing room would have survived three years without a hundred.
Then, Gambhir named some Indian players to compare with Virat Kohli. “People like Ashwin, Rahane, Rohit Sharma, and KL Rahul have been dropped. I haven’t known one guy who hasn’t been dropped after not having scored a hundred in three years. It is only Virat Kohli and he has earned that.” he added.
However, Waqar Younis dismissed that claim of Gambhir by saying that you can not compare anyone with Virat Kohli. He said: “Gautam just mentioned a few names, big names of people in International cricket. I feel that you can not really compare Virat with anyone of them. I mean the kind of potential, the runs he got and he was not playing badly. So, that is also the reason that nobody can touch him because he was still getting runs which the team needed at the time. So, it’s great to see him getting runs. I am really happy for him”.
