The Indian team led by Hardik Pandya are in New Zealand to take on Kane Williamson’s men in a three-match T20I series and the first match of the same, to be played on November 18, Friday, got washed out without a ball being bowled due to persistent rains.

However, it did not stop the two captains from having a fun conversation, when they showed up for a short interview in the midst of all the chaos. When the presenter asked Pandya if the second match of the series to be played on Sunday could potentially be the unofficial third-place face-off of the 20-20 World Cup 2022, Pandya said that the World Cup was long gone and there was no point in discussing the same.

For the unversed, while the Black Caps crashed out of the tournament after losing to the Babar Azam-led Pakistan in the first semi-finals, India bowed out after Jos Buttler and his men crushed the team in the second knockout of the multinational tournament.

“The World Cup is done, I’ve left it behind. The disappointment will be there, but we can’t go back and change things. We’re now looking forward to this series,” said the team India captain Pandya when asked about the third-place face-off. When the same question was asked to New Zealand skipper Kane Williamson, the talismanic batter came up with a cheeky reply.

What do you reckon Hardik?: Kane Williamson

The Kiwi captain said that it would have been a great game and added that he did not think from a third-place face-off point of view. However, the two captains shared a hilarious moment when Williamson asked for Pandya’s opinion on the same.

“I don’t believe so. It wouldn’t have been a very nice game to play I thought so. Hardik, what do you reckon? We’ll start fresh, this is a new series both sides are looking forward to. We both wanted to get to the final, but we’ve got a week to rest and get ourselves ready for this,” Williamson said. The two teams will face off in the next T20I on Sunday and Bay Oval stadium will host the match between the two heavyweights.
