The ongoing season of the Indian T20 League 2022 has shown that even the most successful teams can struggle. Teams such as Mumbai and Chennai, who have won five and four titles respectively, are languishing at the bottom of the points table. On May 12, both teams played each at the Wankhede Stadium in Mumbai. After winning the toss, the five-time winners asked their opponents to bat first.

While batting first, the defending champions put up a dismal show as their skipper MS Dhoni was the only one who could breach the 30-run mark for the defending champions. Seven batters couldn’t get past the double-digit mark, and the team was all-out for 97 runs. The poor performance caught the eye of two former cricketers, Yuvraj Singh and Suresh Raina. After the innings ended, Singh recorded where he was heard saying “Aapki team 97 pe all-out ho gayi hai. kya kahenge aap’? to Raina.

To which, the former Chennai player said “mein nahin tha naa team mein”. Hearing this, Singh started laughing. For the unversed, Raina was part of the Yellow Army from 2008 to 2021. During the player auction this year, the left-hander went unsold. Thus, he has been part of the Hindi commentary team for the official broadcasters.

The four-time winners went on to lose the game by five wickets and are officially out of the race to the playoffs. After the game, skipper Dhoni said that anything below 130 was going to be tough to defend.

“Irrespective of how the wicket is, anything below 130 is difficult to defend, but what I asked the bowlers was to show a lot of character and forget about the result. Both the young fast bowlers (Mukesh Choudhary and Simarjeet Singh) bowled really well and I feel a game like this really helps them in believing in themselves that irrespective of the conditions, whenever we start we need to have the same kind of attitude and that’s what is needed in the shortest format,” Chennai skipper MS Dhoni said after the match.
