‘We scrambled incredibly hard…’ – Mike Hesson impressed with RCB’s fightbak against LSG
Royal Challengers Bangalore suffered their second consecutive loss in IPL 2023 after winning the first game against Mumbai Indians, as they failed to defend 212 runs against Lucknow Super Giants at the M.Chinnaswamy stadium. LSG registered a thrilling victory in the last ball of a nail-biting match.
However, RCB’s director of cricket, Mike Hesson is impressed with the way his team took the match to the last ball of the last over from a point where LSG could have won the match easily. Marcus Stoinis got out after smashing 65 off 30 balls after early wickets. After that, Nicolas Pooran went on to score the second-fastest half-century in IPL history as LSG were in a commendable position to win the match.
“I think our batting was exceptional, a really polished performance with the bat with plenty of skill and spark as well, so that was pretty exciting. With the ball in the powerplay yet again, three times in a row we have been exceptional there,” said Hesson on RCB Game Day Review.
“In the death, we scrambled incredibly hard from a point where we were never entitled to get close. Obviously, in the middle overs, we got hit in some areas we did not want to get hit,” he further added.
‘Spinners were a bit off-colour today’ – Sanjay Bangar
RCB bowlers didn’t have a great outing at the Chinnasamwy stadium on Monday as they failed to defend 212 runs against LSG despite taking the first 3 wickets for 23 runs. RCB posted a total of 212 runs for the loss of 2 wickets, powered by the half-centuries by the skipper Faf du Plessis, Virat Kohli and Glenn Maxwell. The batting coach Sanjay Bangar also reflected on the bowlers’ performance while praising the batters.
“Virat and Faf have been batting really well, it was important that Maxi came and struck the ball the way he did. That was a big plus and from a bowling perspective, I believe that all fast bowlers bowled exceptionally well. Spinners were a bit off-colour today, but that is something we will really have to think about,” said the RCB batting coach.
