Women’s Asia Cup 2022: India Women vs Malaysia Women- Match Report
Having won the first match against Sri Lanka women in the Women’s Asia Cup 2022, the Indian team went head to head with the Malaysia Women’s team for a chance to increase their lead at the top.
The Women in Blue came up with an easy win in their second match. Let’s look at the match report.
Women’s Asia Cup: India Women vs Malaysia Women
After winning the toss, the Indian Women’s team was invited to put runs on the board. Coming on to bat first, Sabbhineni Meghana and Shafali Verma started off with a positive mindset. The Indian openers thwarted all challenges to take the team past 100 runs before the first wicket of Meghana fell.
The right-hand batter hit 69 runs off 53 with 11 boundaries and one six to give a great start to India. Richa Ghosh the next batter also played a great knock of unbeaten 33 off of 19 to take India to 181/4 in 20 overs.
Winifred Duraisingham and Nur Dania Syuhada took two wickets each but failed to stop the flow of runs in the Asia Cup match. Coming onto chase what was a huge total for Malaysia Women’s team got off to a very poor start as captain Duraisingham left the team in limbo after getting out on duck. The other opener Wan Julia also succumbed at one run leaving the team struggling at 6/2 in 3.1 overs.
Mas Elysa (14) and Elsa Hunter (1) took charge of the chase but soon heavens opened up and the game had to be stopped. While all hoped for rain gods to subside, the reality was something else.
The rain kept on blasting the ground with water and the umpires had to end the match there itself. DRS method calculated Malaysia Women to be 30 runs behind their target and hence India were given their second win. Sabbhineni Meghana was adjudged the Player of the match for a solid half-century.
