WTC 2021-23: Top five bowling spells of the cycle
4. Matt Henry – 7/23 vs South Africa, Christchurch, 2022
The fact that Henry was filling in for Trent Boult, who was on paternity leave, and making his first Test appearance in eight months made his outstanding exhibition of pace bowling all the more amazing. Only Ajaz Patel’s and Sir Richard Hadlee’s outstanding efforts (9-52) and 7-23, respectively, by New Zealanders in Test cricket rank higher. Henry took advantage of the favourable fast bowling conditions, perfecting his technique, and producing his career-best Test cricket numbers. The Kiwis took control of the game after South Africa was knocked out for 95 and went on to win convincingly.
