WTC Final 2021-23: 5 reasons why India suffered humiliating defeat against Australia
Leaving out Ravichandran Ashwin
Both fans and analysts found it difficult to understand Ravichandran Ashwin’s absence. Sourav Ganguly claimed that if he had been the captain, it would have been difficult for him to drop someone like Ashwin. Ricky Ponting, Michael Vaughan, and many other players thought it was a grave error. When Ravindra Jadeja, the solitary spinner in the lineup, had the least amount of success in the first innings, the error was ultimately identified. Given the number of left-handers in the Australian lineup—five to be exact—Ashwin had to be included in India’s starting lineup. One of those lefties, Travis Head, ended up scoring the most runs, becoming the first player to ever hit a century in a World Team Championship final, and winning the Player of the Tournament award.
