‘Ye sirf Thala hi kar sakta hai’ – Fans react as MS Dhoni invites Ambati Rayudu and Ravindra Jadeja to collect trophy on behalf of CSK team

On a historic Monday night, Chennai Super Kings (CSK) managed to win the Indian Premier League (IPL) title for the fifth time in the history of IPL, making them the joint-most successful IPL franchise alongside Mumbai Indians (MI). On the final night, the MS Dhoni-led team defeated the Gujarat Titans (GT) by five wickets. The trio of MS Dhoni, Ambati Rayudu, and Ravindra Jadeja received the trophy from Indian Cricket Board’s President Roger Binny and Secretary Jay Shah.

Notably, Ambati Rayudu, who was crucial in CSK’s success throughout the years, played his final IPL match in the cash-rich league. The 37-year-old scored 19 runs off eight balls against Gujarat in the championship match to enable CSK to inch closer to taking the trophy home. When ten was needed in the final two deliveries, on the other hand, Jadeja stepped up and struck a six and a boundary to ensure CSK’s victory.

While chasing the target, the rain interrupted the second innings, and the match was reduced to 15 overs where CSK have a chase down a big total of 171 runs. Every bowler was allowed to bowl a maximum of three overs and the powerplay was four overs.

The Super Kings openers, Devon Conway and Ruturaj Gaikwad provided a solid start to the side as they both together put on a total of 74 runs before the latter was dismissed on the bowling of Noor Ahmad after scoring a total of 26 runs from 16 balls with three fours and as six in his innings. Before getting dismissed, Conway also scored crucial 47 runs from just 25 balls with four fours and two sixes in his innings.

The CSK middle-order contributed as well which helped in crossing the line for the team. Ajinkya Rahane, Shivam Dube, and Ambati Rayudu played short but brilliant cameos for their team. In the end, with 10 runs needed in the last two balls, Ravindra Jadeja held his nerves to hit a six and a four to take his team home.
