Yuvraj Singh, the legendary Indian cricketer, has expressed his displeasure with the controversial decision made by the third umpire in India’s first match of the ongoing women’s Asia Cup 2022 on Saturday.

Despite the fact that replays showed Pooja Vastrakar’s bat appeared to be inside the crease, the Indian batter was declared run-out by the third umpire during India’s match against Sri Lanka at the Shaheed Veer Narayan Singh International Stadium. Pooja was dismissed on the second-last ball of the Indian innings, when she was hoping for a quick double.

After collecting a sharp throw from Kavisha Dilhari, wicketkeeper Anushka Sanjeewani removed the bails in a flash. While many expected Vastrakar to be declared not-out, the Indian batter was given out after the third umpire refused to give the batting team the benefit of the doubt. Even the match commentators were taken aback by the third umpire’s decision.

Yuvraj lashed out at the third umpire on Twitter in the aftermath of the controversial decision. “That’ is such a poor decision by the third umpire ! Should have given pooja vastrakar benefit of doubt !! #indiavssrilanka #WomensAsiaCup,” Yuvraj said in his tweet.

In the meantime, this is not the first time the Indian Women’s Team has been involved in a run-out controversy. Deepti Sharma‘s brilliant run-out at the non-end striker’s in the final ODI against England sparked outrage just a few days ago. The bowler ran out Charlie Dean even before the ball was delivered, which eventually decided the result of the match.

As for the game, Jemimah Rodrigues hit a brilliant 76 off 53 balls. Harmanpreet Kaur, on the other hand, contributed a 30-ball 33 to help India reach 150-6 in 20 overs. Dayalan Hemalatha took three wickets and allowed 15 runs as India bowled out Sri Lanka for 109 in 18.2 overs. India won the Asia Cup 2022 opener by a margin of 41 runs. Rodrigues was named Player of the Match for her outstanding batting performance.
