‘Most unfortunate player’ – Fans Slam Indian Cricket Board After Not Picking Up Shreyas Iyer For The Asia Cup 2022 Squad
India just won both the ODI and T20I series against West Indies in a convincing manner. Now, they will travel to Zimbabwe for three ODIs followed by the Asia Cup. However, senior players took a rest from the Zimbabwe tour. Hence, they will be in action from the Asia Cup onwards. On 8 August 2022, the Indian Cricket Board announced the 15-member squad of India for this upcoming event.
Meanwhile, before the announcement, confirmed reports were there that Jasprit Bumrah will miss this tournament due to back issues. As per previous reports, Harshal Patel will also miss due to a rib injury. Hence, the Board did not include them in the final squad. Now, speaking of the final squad, big names like Virat Kohli, and KL Rahul made a comeback as expected. India went with four spin bowling options. Ravindra Jadeja, Ravichandran Ashwin, Ravi Bishnoi, and Yuzvendra Chahal will be available for the tournament. Apart from them, India went with a much-inexperienced pace bowling unit.
Shreyas Iyer has scored the most amount of runs in T20Is for India in 2022 so far
Bhuvneshwar Kumar will lead the bowling lineup along with youngsters Avesh Khan and Arshdeep Singh. However, eyebrows got raised when Indian selectors did not select Mohammed Shami in the absence of Bumrah. Notable, Shreyas Iyer, Deepak Chahar, and Axar Patel were named as backups for the tournament. Meanwhile, this decision did not go well for the fans.
They came out on Twitter in support of the Mumbai batter. Speaking of his numbers in 2022, Iyer is the highest run-scorer for India in the shortest format of the game. In 2022, he scored 449 runs in 14 innings at an average of 44.90. Shreyas Iyer also had a great ODI series in West Indies. In the fifth and last T20I, he opened the innings and scored 64 runs off 40 balls only. Still, it was not enough for the Indian selectors to select him for this upcoming event.
Here is how fans have reacted to the absence of Shreyas Iyer from the Asia Cup 2022 squad:
#ShreyasIyer features in the list of standy, not #SanjuSamson. #KLRahul becomes a vice-captain and not #HardikPandya. Dear selectors, either you are making a mockery of yourself or for the position that you are currently holding it.#AsiaCup #BCCI

What wrong did Shreyas Iyer do to not be in the official squad and that too Deepak Hooda selected ahead of him . Shreyas has performed consistently in T20I and whereas Hooda has just started at the highest level . This is unfair to the man . #AsiaCup2022 #ShreyasIyer

The real reason #ShreyasIyer hasn't been selected is bc #BCCI has appointed him as their Chief #Reels Officer

#ShreyasIyer is very unlucky to miss out from both #AsiaCup2022 & potentially #T20WorldCup2022

Why not #ShreyasIyer?
Shreyas has been out of squad mainly because of haters/trollers who are none other than verified accounts & few veterans (personal grudges)
If true sports critic then must support bright batters of #TeamIndia.— Suha (@Kayasimple) August 9, 2022
