“Better runner than Inzamam-Ul-Haq” – Fans React as Rahkeem Cornwall gets run out on first ball in CPL 2023

Saint Lucia Kings and Barbados Royals recently encountered each other in the 2nd match of the Caribbean Premier League (CPL) on 17 August 2023, Thursday at the Daren Sammy National Cricket Stadium, West Indies. Saint Lucia Kings batted first, and the team collectively put a high target on the board. The Barbados Royals opening batsman Rahkeem Cornwall got dismissed for a duck in a run out due to poor fitness leading the team towards the loss.

The Zimbabwe batsman Sean Williams and South African Batsman Faf du Plessis led Saint Lucia Kings to a high score as they scored 47 and 46 runs off 30 and 32 deliveries with a strike rate of 156.67 and 143.75, respectively. Sean Williams smashed three fours and two huge sixes that left the fans celebrating. The top-order batsman Faf du Plessis scored 4 fours and 2 sixes to lead Saint Lucia Kings to a score of 210-6. 

Barbados Royals failed to chase the target of 202 runs and got dismissed for 147 runs at the end of 20 overs. Nyeem Young and Donavon Ferreira became the highest scorers for the team by scoring 48 and 19 runs off 39 and 12 deliveries respectively.

Saint Lucia Kings sealed an easy victory against Barbados Royals by 54 runs. With 0 points B-Love Kandy stands in the last spot of the Points Table. 

“It was a tough night and we didn’t stick to our plans as a batting unit, losing 4 or 5 in the batting PP, we’ll always struggle. It was going to be tough, but a few guys did bowl well. 200-run targets, we can’t win in the batting PP, but we can lose and we did exactly that. Young was a big positive with the bat. We need to keep on improving, we have a young team and we’ll need some time to get things right,” said Rovman Powell, Captain of Barbados Royals. 

“Really good, the first 6 overs were very important and to get 70 odd was a real professional performance, that put the pressure on them. The ball swung a bit more for us today than yesterday and that’s when Forde becomes a dangerous weapon. We have the spinners, someone like Chase bowls well against left-handers – the spinners could settle down on a rhythm against new batters. Confidence is big thing in this tournament and we needed to do things better tonight. Catching is difficult at this ground and it was pleasing to see us doing well there”, Said Faf du Plessis, Captain, Saint Lucia Kings.
