ACC announced Asia Cup 2023 schedule; Here are complete fixtures, timings and venues
The complete schedule for the 16th edition of Asia Cup 2023 has finally been announced on Wednesday. Pakistan was originally designated as the only host for the entire tournament. However, due to conflicts with Indian Cricket Board, Sri Lanka has been appointed as the co-host.
As part of the deal, India agreed not to go to Pakistan for their games. Pakistan will now host the Asia Cup 2023. The remainder of the tournament, including India’s games, will be held in Sri Lanka. The Asia Cup 2023 will be played in a 50-over format. The premier competition, which comprises 13 matches, will include six teams. Group A consists of India, Pakistan, and Nepal, whereas Group B consists of Sri Lanka, Bangladesh, and Afghanistan.
Venues for Asia CupĀ
According to sources, India will play archrival Pakistan National Cricket Team in the tournament opener on September 2 in Kandy. The highly anticipated Asia Cup 2023 will begin with a match between Pakistan and Nepal in the of Multan. During the tournament, Gaddafi Stadium in Lahore will host three more enthralling matches.
Meanwhile, in Sri Lanka, the rest group matches and Super 4 games will be held in Kandy and Dambulla, respectively, with the final set to take place at the R. Premadasa Stadium in Colombo. The teams finishing first and second in each group will advance to the Super 4 stages. With India and Pakistan likely to qualify from Group B, the fans might get to watch three India vs. Pakistan clashes. Bangladesh is scheduled to face Afghanistan on September 3 in Lahore, followed by Sri Lanka vs. Afghanistan on September 5 at the Gaddafi Stadium.
India has emerged as the most dominant team in the previous 15 editions of the ACC Asia Cup, winning the trophy 7 times. Sri Lanka is close behind with six trophies, while Pakistan has won the tournament twice. Meanwhile, the other Asian teams continue their quest for their first Asia Cup victory.
