Beth Mooney to miss rest of Women’s T20 League after Gujarat’s Deandra Dottin controversy
The Gujarat franchise didn’t have a great time so far in the inaugural season of the Women’s T20 League. They suffered a heavy defeat in the opening against Mumbai, as they were bowled out for just 64 runs chasing a total of 208, losing the game by 143 runs. In the second match against Up, Gujarat scored 169 runs in the first inning and had the upper hand till the 16th over, but then Grace Harris took the charge and turned the match around with her 59 off 26 as UP chased the target with one ball remaining.
After losing two back-to-back matches, Gujarat will most likely miss their skipper Beth Mooney for the rest of the tournament. Mooney twisted her knee while batting against Mumbai and was forced to leave the ground on the fourth ball of Gujarat’s inning. She was also ruled in the second match as Sneh Rana took charge against UP.
As reported by Sports Tak, Gujarat batter Rachael Haynes has confirmed that Mooney is likely to be ruled out for the rest of the tournament. Haynes said that Mooney’s scans returned on Sunday and didn’t look very good. However, Haynes did not reveal the nature of the injury, and the franchise also hasn’t given any update about it.
Gujarat replaced Deandra Dottin with Kim Garth
Mooney’s news came right after Deandra Dottin’s controversy. The franchise started on Sunday saying that they had to replace the West Indian all-rounder with Australia’s Kim Garth as they were not able to obtain medical clearance for Dottin on time. Replying to Gujarat’s Tweet, Dottin thanked the franchise and later stated that she has been ‘recovering from nothing.’
“Deandra is a world-class player and a wonderful signing for the franchise. Unfortunately, we were unable to obtain a medical clearance before the defined deadline for this season, such clearances are a requirement for all players participating in the Women’s T20 League. We look forward to seeing her return to the field soon. Subject to the clearance of her medical report, she will be part of the Gujarat squad in the upcoming seasons,” the Gujarat franchise said in its statement.
“I really appreciate all the messages but truth be told I’m recovering from nothing but the Holy Ghost anointing thank you #GodIsGood #GodIsInControl,” said Dottin in replies to Gujarat’s Tweet.
