‘Bhai chal kya raha hai ye’ – Fans react as Cricket Association of Bengal requests PAK vs ENG ODI World Cup fixture to be rescheduled
The much-awaited ODI World Cup 2023 is scheduled to start on October 5. The first match of the tournament will take place at the Narendra Modi Stadium, Ahmedabad, where the two finalists from the last edition, England and New Zealand, will lock horns against each other. The venues for the knockout games and semi-final have been announced. The final is set to be hosted by Ahmedabad’s Narendra Modi Stadium.
The Cricket Association of Bengal (CAB) has now requested the Indian Cricket Board to re-schedule the fixture between the defending champions, England vs Pakistan, which will be played in Kolkata’s Eden Garden. The match is scheduled to be played on 12th November. The CAB has requested the Indian Cricket Board and Apex Cricket Council to reschedule the 11 November due to the auspicious festival of Kali Puja.
We have not yet got anything officially from the Kolkata Police: Snehasish Ganguly
The Kali Puja is the second biggest festival for the people of West Bengal after Durga Puja. Thousands of locals in Kolkata are set to organize events on this day, for which a big police force would be stationed across the city to maintain a law and order situation. So it would be impossible to send the police force on that day at Eden Gardens.
“Kolkata Police has cited concerns to provide security for the match slated on Diwali. We have informed the Cricket Governing Body and Indian Cricket Board to reschedule it and if it does not happen we would inform to the chief minister,” a senior CAB office-bearer, who was part of the meeting with the 17-member Apex Cricket Council and the Indian Cricket Board inspection team was quoted as saying in the PTI.
“We have not yet got anything officially from the Kolkata Police. Unless we get something officially, we can’t inform the Cricket Governing Body. Security issue is being taken care of by the Kolkata Police. That is not our look-out. As I said, we have not got anything officially, if we get anything we will inform Cricket Governing Body,” CAB President, Snehasish Ganguly asserted.
