‘Bhai ye iss baar title defend kar lenge’ – Fans react as Gujarat Titans defeat Sunrisers Hyderabad in IPL 2023 clash
After losing the last fixture against Mumbai Indians (MI), Gujarat Titans (GT) locked horns with Sunrisers Hyderabad (SRH) at the iconic Narendra Modi Stadium, in Ahmedabad. The Titans won the match by 34 runs and Shubman Gill was awarded the Player of the Match for his brilliant century in the first innings.
If we talk about the encounter, SRH skipper Aiden Markram won the toss and elected to bowl first. The home side while batting first scored a total of 188 runs for the loss of nine wickets in the first innings. The highest scorer of the side was their opener, Shubman Gill, who scored 101 runs off 58 balls with 13 fours and a six in his innings. The star performer for the visitors was star India pacer, Bhuvneshwar Kumar, who snapped four wickets in his spell where he conceded 30 runs in his spell.
I don’t dwell much on my last innings: Shubman Gill
While chasing a target, SRH was able to score only 154 runs for the loss of nine wickets in their 20 overs. The highest scorer for them was their wicketkeeper-batter, Heinrich Klassen, who scored 64 runs from 44 balls which included four fours and three sixes in his innings. The star performer for GT in bowling was Mohammed Shami, who grabbed four wickets in his spell of four overs where he conceded 20 runs in his spell.
“I was focusing on my strengths and trying to keep it tight. I always try to bowl in good areas. Just like the game against Delhi, the ball was moving off the deck. It’s very good to have a pacer like Mohit Sharma in the middle overs who uses the variations smartly,” Shami was quoted as saying after the victory.
“I made my IPL debut against SRH and got my first hundred against them, so life has come a full circle. Hopefully many more to come. It’s all about the bowlers and situation and I don’t dwell much on my last innings. It is important to focus on the situation in front. The six off Abhishek Sharma was the most pleasing thing for me. I told him that if you bowl to me I’m gonna hit you for a six. (ICYMI: Gill and Abhishek Sharma open for Punjab in domestic T20 cricket),” Gill was quoted as saying in the post-match presentation.
