Chennai unveils an Academy for youngsters in Chennai and Salem
Chennai is the most consistent team in the history of the Indian T20 League. They have played in 9 finals and have won the title 4 times. According to the latest report, the franchise has opened cricket coaching centers for budding young boy and girl cricketers.
They have opened academies in Salem and other parts of the city. To mark the inauguration of the academies, the current Chennai bowler Deepak Chahar, the team’s batting coach Michael Hussey, and CEO Kasi Viswanathan virtually attended the ceremony and interacted with the students.
Deepak Chahar has been an important part of the team since 2018. He was bought back by the franchise for the 15th edition for a hefty sum of INR 14 Cr. However, an untimely and unfortunate injury meant that he will not be a part of the team till mid-April in the tournament. Chahar shared his experience with the franchise during the ceremony and said that his time with the team has helped him improve both as a person and as an athlete.
“I have improved as a person and as an athlete after joining the Chennai family. I can give that guarantee to everyone, the parents and kids. I don’t know how many will play for the country or the state but there is one guarantee that you will surely become a better person and all of you will be treated equally,”- Chahar said during the event.
Mike Hussey stated that the academy will provide the youngsters with excellent opportunities and they will get to be a part of something special.
“Everyone has got an opportunity to improve their game. It is a chance to improve their cricket, which is important, but also a chance to improve as people,”- said Hussey.
The fans will be excited to see how many new talents and prospects the academy produces.
