Punjab and Chennai locked horns in the 11th match of the Indian T20 League 2022 at the Brabourne stadium in Mumbai.

Chennai won the toss, their first in the tournament, and decided to field first. The men in yellow started well as they dismissed two Punjab batters within the first two overs. At the 1.2 over mark, the score read 14 for 2, when Liam Livingstone walked out to bat. He made the Chennai attack look like school-level bowling smashing boundaries at will. Livingstone and Dhawan put together a partnership of 95 runs in no time. Dhawan was finally dismissed on the final delivery of the 10th over, scoring 33 runs off 24 deliveries. Livingstone was dismissed soon by Ravindra Jadeja, but not before he scored 60 runs off 32 deliveries hitting 5 fours and 5 sixes. After Livingstone departed Punjab lost all their momentum and ended up with a score of 180 runs in 20 overs. In the last 10 overs, they just scored 77 runs and ended with a score of 20-30 runs short of what was expected.

Punjab made a dream of a start while defending the total. They sent half of the Chennai batting order back in the pavilion by the 8th over of the innings. Chennai was reeling at 36 for 5, when MS Dhoni joined Shivam Dube in the middle. Chennai’s hope depended on the duo from here on. Dube kept their hopes alive as he scored 57 off 30 deliveries. He was ultimately dismissed by Liam Livingstone in the 15th over. Dwayne Bravo came and went of the very next ball and Chennai was 7 down for 98 runs at the end of the 15th over. 83 runs were needed off 30 balls and it was the best time for the Dhoni-show. But the show never came as MS Dhoni was dismissed for 23 off 28 deliveries. Chennai was bowled out for 126 runs in the 18th over. Punjab emerged victorious by 54 runs and registered their second win of the tournament.
