‘Delhi toh sambhli nahi, chale gyaan dene’ – Fans react as Ricky Ponting labels Hardik Pandya ‘X-factor’ ahead of Test Championship Final
Ricky Ponting, a former captain of Australia, believes that India should have selected all-rounder Hardik Pandya for the World Test Championship Final against Australia. The Oval will host the final match from June 7 to June 11. Hardik recently took Gujarat Titans (GT) to the Indian Premier League (IPL) 2023 championship game, where they fell to Chennai Super Kings (CSK) in a thrilling last-ball match.
The playoffs and the championship game were just two of the many games that Hardik Pandya bowled in. He hasn’t played in a Test since 2018, though, and he denied making the World T20 final selection without first-class cricket.
“I thought about the other day for India in this game is how valuable someone like Hardik Pandya could be in a one-off Test match. I know he is on record saying that the Test match game is probably a little bit hard on his body. But for a one-off game,” Ponting wrote in the Apex Cricket Council Review show
Hardik Pandya could have been Valuable addition for India in the WTC final: Ricky Ponting
In IPL 2023, Ricky Ponting was the head coach of the Delhi Capitals (DC), and he attentively observed Pandya during the games against GT. He believed that India’s all-rounder may have made the difference in the cash-rich league final.
“He (Pandya) could be that X-factor there just to pick in a one-off game, come in and see what he can do with bat and ball,” the former World Cup-winning skipper from Australia asserted.
Regarding Hardik Pandya, he has played 11 Test matches and amassed 532 runs at an average of 31.29 while also taking 17 wickets. He played in his first Test match back in 2017, however owing to injury worries, he hasn’t participated since 2018.
Here’s how fans reacted on Ricky Ponting’s statement over Hardik Pandya ahead of Test Championship final against Australia at The Oval, in Southampton:
