Five times international players preferred Indian T20 League over national duties
Last week, Cricket South Africa (CSA) allowed its players to skip the home series against Bangladesh to play the upcoming Indian T20 League. This decision was surprising as Cricket Australia (CA) have allowed playing the league only after the Pakistan series. Some of the CAs contracted players are either playing in Pakistan or playing the Sheffield Shield Tournament and have been asked to fulfil their national contracts before honouring the ITL contracts.
However, South Arica players missing national duties for the cash-rich league is not the first of its kind. There have been instances where players have missed national duties for ITL. In this listicle, we will discuss five instances where players preferred ITL over national duties.
Five instances when players missed national duties
Mohammad Nabi (2018)
Afghanistan all-rounder Mohammad Nabi missed the two-match series against Scotland in May 2018. Notably, the first game was washed out and the second one was won by Afghanistan. At this point, the ITL was in running with Nabi playing for Hyderabad, who ended as the runner-up of the league. Alongside him, leg-spinner Rashid Khan also stayed with the Hyderabad team.
