‘Hope kal 100 run kare KL Rahul’ – Fans react to abrupt ending to Day 1 of first Test between India and South Africa at Centurion

SA vs IND

The first day of the first Test between India and South Africa had an abrupt ending. The stumps for the day was declared a bit early due to the interruption of rain in the match. India ended the day with a decent batting performance, as they scored 208/8 on the first Day. Before that, the talk about the match was regarding the two individuals who performed very well.

Kagiso Rabada and KL Rahul were the stars of the first Day, as both of them performed well. Rabada was brilliant with the ball throughout the day. With the new ball, the star pacer got the big wicket of Rohit Sharma. He returned to his spell in the second session and proved to be even more threatening. With some support from the other end from Burger, Rabada bowled in full throttle.

In his spell of 17 overs, Rabada claimed 5 wickets and conceded only 44 runs. It was a fantastic spell of bowling, as he claimed the big wickets of Virat Kohli and Shreyas Iyer as well. Rabada got the wickets of Ravichandran Ashwin and Shardul Thakur to achieve the milestone of claiming a whopping 500 international wickets. India was in big trouble against SA on the first day.

KL Rahul to India’s rescue

While wickets were falling at the other end, KL Rahul barged in and played a very good knock. He entered the middle at 92/4 and soon saw the team at 121/6. That was when he framed some useful partnership with Shardul Thakur. The latter played some shots with his willow. Together, the duo ensured that the Indian innings was revived in the middle.

But the highlight of his batting has been the way he has batted along with the lower order batters like Jasprit Bumrah and Mohammad Siraj. Rahul took the onus on himself and ensured that the tailenders do not get to face as many balls. The planning from Rahul was brilliant, although Bumrah was dismissed. But the WK batter ended up with a score of an unbeaten 70 at the end of the day.

Here’s how the fans reacted to the end of the play on Day 1:
