‘Isko kahte hain revenge’ – RCB fans over the moon as Bangalore side defend 126 against LSG, Virat Kohli and Gautam Gambhir clash post match
In the 43rd match of IPL 2023, the Royal Challengers Bangalore took on the Lucknow Super Giants at the Ekana Stadium in Lucknow. RCB won the toss and elected to bat first on a poor pitch that offered little to the batters.
RCB’s innings got off to a slow start, and they struggled to score runs throughout. Virat Kohli and Faf du Plessis tried to steady the innings, but they were unable to get going as they labored to 31 off 30 and 44 off 40, respectively. None of the other RCB batters could contribute significantly, and they finished with a below-par score of 126/9 in their 20 overs. Naveen ul Haq from LSG was the pick of the bowlers, taking 3 wickets in his 4 overs. Ravi Bishnoi and Amit Mishra also chipped in with 2 wickets each.
With such a low target to chase, LSG was expected to cruise to victory. However, RCB’s bowlers had different plans. LSG’s openers, Kyle Mayers and Ayush Badoni, got off to a poor start, with Mayers falling for a duck and Badoni making just 4 runs. To make matters worse, LSG’s regular captain KL Rahul was injured in the first over, and replacement captain Krunal Pandya tried to keep his team in the game with a quick 14 off 11. However, he was unable to take his team home.
K Gowtham played a valiant knock of 23 off 13, but it wasn’t enough as LSG lost wickets at regular intervals. In the end, an injured KL Rahul came in to bat, but he was clearly in pain and couldn’t run properly. RCB’s bowlers kept the pressure on, and LSG finished their innings on 108/9, 18 runs short of their target.
RCB’s victory was a result of a disciplined bowling performance, with all their bowlers contributing to restrict LSG to a low total. Naveen ul Haq was the pick of the LSG bowlers, but his efforts were in vain as his team’s batting failed to deliver.
Overall, it was a low-scoring match that was dominated by the bowlers. RCB will be pleased with their victory, which keeps them in the hunt for a playoff spot, while LSG will need to regroup and come back stronger in their next game.
