‘Kya kachra players daal rakhe hai team mai’ – Fans react as Colombo Strikers lose match against Jaffna Kings in LPL 2023
Colombo Strikers lost the opportunity to take revenge against the defending champions Jaffna Kings, who defeated them in the inaugural match of the season. On a slow wicket in Pallekele, Colombo Strikers won the toss and elected to bat first. The Strikers could not get going in their innings, thanks to disciplined bowling from the bowlers of the Kings.
Pathum Nissanka gave a good start to the Kings. But the star batter Babar Azam struggled to get going for the Strikers. Lahiru Udara, Nuwanidu Fernando, Iftikhar Ahmed, and Chamika Karunaratne all failed to get going. Mohammad Nawaz did his bit as a finisher and helped the Strikers to get past the mark of 140 runs. As a result, Colombo scored 146 runs in their 20 overs.
Jaffna Kings bowled well as a unit. Maheesh Theekshana and Dilshan Madushanka were very good with the new ball. Dunith Wellalage was the pick of the bowlers, who claimed a couple of wickets in the middle overs and conceded only 9 runs in his spell of 3 overs. A target of 147 seemed to be of no threat for the Kings, as they were on a roll right from the word go.
Opening pair wins the game for Jaffna Kings
The brilliance of the opening pair of the Kings just sealed the game in a matter of minutes for the chasing side. Nishan Madushka and Rahmanullah Gurbaz were on fire. The duo added 58 runs in 5.2 overs and changed the game completely. While Gurbaz scored 39(21) and provided a brisk start, Madushka continued and scored 46(32).
Captain Thisara Perera and Towhid Hridoy provided the finishing touches for the Kings, as they beat the Strikers comfortably by 6 wickets with 33 balls to spare. Only Naseem Shah proved to be effective for the Strikers with the ball, as he claimed 2 wickets and conceded 22 runs in his spell of 3.5 overs. Other bowlers went for runs in the Strikers’ lineup. Only Naseem bowled under an economy of 9 for the Strikers defending a total of 147.

Poor performance by middle order and bowling was also not up to the mark.
Practice hard and all the best for next 3 games.
Hope we win next 3 matches— Iqra Hussain (@Iqra_Hussain_ih) August 8, 2023
