‘MS Dhoni did not win the World Cup’ – AB De Villiers makes massive claim on India’s 2011 World Cup triumph
AB de Villiers, during his long career, was known to be one of the best batters in the world. The 39-year-old former South African is now retired and is known to give his take on the game. The former batting legend is in the news for his comments on former India skipper MS Dhoni.
The former South African skipper recently echoed the thoughts of former Indian opener Gautam Gambhir. The statement made was pertaining to former Indian skipper MS Dhoni. ABD, as he is fondly called, was speaking about the need for team building ahead of the 2023 ODI World Cup.
AB De Villiers and Gautam Gambhir retired from the game in 2018, but MS Dhoni is still going strong. The former India skipper, this year, led CSK to their fifth title win in IPL. Dhoni is reportedly going to play his final season in top-flight cricket next year.
AB De Villiers bold statement on MS Dhoni –
Former South African legend AB De Villiers was recently seen speaking on his YouTube channel. The 39-year-old said, “Cricket is a team game, it’s not a player lifting the World Cup. I see that way too often on social platforms. MS Dhoni did not win the World Cup, India won the World Cup, so keep that in mind. Don’t forget that. Ben Stokes did not lift the trophy in Lord’s back in 2019, it was team England”
Former Indian opener and teammate of MS Dhoni during the 2011 win Gautam Gambhir made a similar statement. The former Indian opener had emphasized the need to recognize the entire team rather than one individual. For the record, Gautam Gambhir and MS Dhoni shared a huge partnership in the 2011 World Cup finals.
AB De Villiers also had words of praise for Mohammad Siraj before the 2023 ODI World Cup. Siraj had shared the dressing with ABD during their time together at RCB. Siraj had taken 6 wickets in the recent Asia Cup 2023 final.
Speaking about Siraj, the former South African skipper said “I think what stands out with him is his attitude, and we’ve spoken about this before on this series. Your attitude can really uplift you if you never give up. And if you keep trying and you make your attitude, catch you with your teammates, the people want you there”
Mohammad Siraj will be a key bowler for India during the upcoming ODI World Cup 2023. The 29-year-old will be looked at with keen eyes by Indians along with Jasprit Bumrah and Mohammad Shami.
