Lucknow Super Giants registered a thrilling last-ball victory against Royal Challengers Bangalore by 1 wicket at the M. Chinnaswamy stadium. Batting first, RCB posted a big total of 212 for loss of 2 wickets, powered by the half-centuries from Virat Kohli, Faf du Plessis and Glenn Maxwell. In reply, LSG chased the winning total by losing 9 wickets.
RCB got a firing start as Du Plessis and Virat Kohli added 96 runs for the first wicket in 11.3. Kohli got out after scoring 61 runs off 44 balls with four fours and four sixes. The 34-year-old ended up giving a catch to Marcus Stoinis at deep mid-wicket in the 12th over by Amit Mishra.
After that, Du Plessis put up a century partnership with Maxwell for the second wicket. The South African-Australian pair added 115 runs before Maxwell got bowled out by Mark Wood in the second last ball of the 20th over. The Australian all-rounder got out after smashing 59 runs off 29 balls hitting three fours and six sixes. Du Plessis remained unbeaten on 79 runs off 46 balls including five fours and five sixes and RCB went past 210.
Marcus Stoinis and Nicolas Pooran turned the match for LSG after a poor start
Chasing the winning total, LSG didn’t had a great start as Mohammed Siraj sent Kyle Mayers back to the pavilion for a duck in the first over of LSG’s innings. After that, Wayne Parnell struck twice in the fourth over dismissing Deepak Hooda and Krunal Pandya as Lucknow lost 3 wickets for 23 runs. After that, Marcus Stoinis added 76 runs with the skipper KL Rahul for the fourth wicket.
Stoinis got out in the 11th over after smashing 65 runs off 30 balls with six fours and five sixes. In the next over, Siraj struck again by sending Rahul back to the pavilion to give RCB the fifth breakthrough. After that, Nicolas Pooran went on to score the second fastest half-century in IPL and highest in the ongoing season in 15 balls to put LSG back into the game. The Caribbean batter got out after smashing 62 runs off just 19 balls with four fours and seven sixes.
Ayush Badoni got hit wicket out in the 19th over as the game went down to the last ball of the last over with LSG requiring 1 run with 1 wicket left. Harshal Patel delivered a yorker that went to the wicket keeper Dinesh Karthik but Avesh Khan and Ravi Bishnoi completed the run to give LSG a thrilling victory.
