‘Prithvi Shaw will have to score runs’ – Former Indian opener hopes young batter can get in form ahead of Delhi Capitals’ clash against Rajasthan Royals
Delhi Capitals didn’t had a great outing so far in the ongoing season of the Indian Premier League. Under the captaincy of David Warner, DC lost both their matches against Lucknow Super Giants and Gujarat Titans consecutively. They suffered a big loss of 50 runs against LSG at the Ekana Cricket stadium and went on to lose their second match to GT in front of their home ground by 6 wickets.
DC’s young batter Prithvi Shaw also seemed to struggle with the bat in both games. The 23-year-old got out after scoring 12 runs against LSG, while scored only 7 runs in the next game against GT. DC will now take on Rajasthan Royals in their upcoming match at the Barsapara Stadium in Guwahati. Former Indian cricketer Aakash Chopra said that DC need to change their playing XI for the game against RR and also added that Shaw had to score big in the upcoming game.
“Delhi have lost both their matches. Their situation is very bad. I see only one change – you can play Rovman Powell in place of Rilee Rossouw. Sarfaraz Khan and Abishek Porel did well last time. Prithvi Shaw will have to score runs, it’s a no-brainer,” said Chopra on his Youtube channel.
“Warner has shown that he has form, although it might not be gun form, but he can score runs. I think Mitchell Marsh holds the key. It is not going to spin here. The spinners’ role will be less here because a lot of dew comes. The three big names have to do well in batting,” the former cricketer further added.
‘The big question is whether Jos Buttler is available’ – Chopra
Chopra also put questions about the availability of Jos Buttler in the upcoming game. After the match against Punjab Kings, RR skipper Sanju Samson revealed that Buttler didn’t came to open the innings due to an injury on his finger. Chopra also added that Joe Root can be part of RR’s playing XI if Buttler doesn’t play.
“Rajasthan played outstanding cricket in the first match and should have won the second match as well. It might have worked out if you had not wasted the four balls by sending Ashwin at the top of the order. The big question is whether Jos Buttler is available,” Chopra said.
“Root can play if Buttler doesn’t play. Root’s recent T20 numbers are very good. He is a quality player and this pitch will suit all batters. Jason Holder once again holds the key. He picks up wickets and bowled very well at the death too last time,” he added.
