One of the rising forces in international cricket for the last decade has been Bangladesh. From their initial days in the international arena, they have evolved a lot and have emerged as a force to reckon with. The Bangladesh Cricket Board (BSB) is constantly striving toward excellence and is looking for more positive results from the team.

The Bangladesh team has not been performing up to expectations for the past few months in the longest format of the game. Though they won a historic test against New Zealand earlier this year, they lost the series against South Africa and Sri Lanka on the bounce. The unfavorable results were building up a lot of pressure on Bangladesh Test captain Mominul Haque. Thus, after the team’s defeat in the home series against Sri Lanka, Mominul stepped down from the role.

With a vacancy in the role, the cricket board will be looking to hand over the captaincy to a worthy candidate. They might look to hand over the responsibilities to a young player or may go back to a veteran and experienced name like Shakib Al Hasan.

Here are three prime contenders for the role.

Litton Das

1. Litton Das: Litton Das has been an important part of Bangladesh’s batting order in the last few years. He has played 33 matches for Bangladesh in the longest format of the game and has scored 2011 runs in them at an average of 35.91.

He played an important role in the recently concluded series against Sri Lanka. He scored 281 runs in the series at an average of 93.67. He played a brilliant knock of 141 runs in one of the matches rescuing his team from a difficult situation. The performances are speaking in favor of the wicket-keeper batter and have made him a prime contender for the vacant captaincy role. Litton can also be a long-term option for Bangladesh as it seems that he is going to have a long run in the international circuit.
