England and Pakistan have finally finished their ODI World Cup 2023 tournament. The margin of win for Jos Buttler and his side was 93 runs during the game in Kolkata on Saturday. With this win England has now qualified for the Champions Trophy 2025 to be played in Pakistan.

Babar Azam already knew his side was knocked out of the tournament at the toss. Pakistan had to bat first if they entertained winning the game with an improbable margin. England though batted first after rightly calling the coins toss.

Shadab Khan replaced Hasan Ali in the playing XI for Pakistan. This was the only change for the men in green from their last game against the New Zealand. The English team meanwhile went in unchanged after beating Netherlands in the last game.

England outclass hapless Pakistan side

Chasing 338 to win, Pakistan were reeling at 10 for 2 in the 3rd over. David Willey first bowled Abdullah Shafique for a duck. This was followed by Willey having Fakhar Zaman caught by Ben Stokes for 1.

Babar Azam and Mohammad Rizwan then added 51 runs for the 3rd wicket as the Pakistani skipper looked aggressive. Just against the run of play Babar Azam was caught by Adil Rashid off Gus Atkinson for 38.

Moeen Ali then struck when he had Mohammad Rizwan bowled as he went for an ugly hoick across the line for 36. Saud Shakeel was bowled by Adil Rashid for 29 while going for a paddle scoop. Agha Salman held fort to top score with 51 runs before becoming the third wicket of the day for David Willey.

The Pakistani tail-enders then had some fun as Haris Rauf swung his bat to score 35 runs off 23 balls with 3 fours and 3 sixes. The last wicket fell to Chris Woakes when he had Haris Rauf caught by Ben Stokes to seal the 93-run win.

Earlier in the day Ben Stokes yet again was the top scorer with 84 runs for his side. The knock came just days after he had scored a memorable ton versus the Netherlands. David Willey picked up three wickets in his final game for England. Moeen Ali, Adil Rashid, and Gus Atkinson picked 2 wickets apiece.
