Abhishek Tanwar of Salem Spartans bowled an odd final ball during the current season of the Tamil Nadu Premier League (TNPL). The fastest bowler in T20 cricket delivered the most costly ball in the innings’ last over. Tanwar, who only gave up 8 runs in the first five balls, surprised the fans by giving up an astounding 18 runs off the final ball.

When Abhishek Tanwar removed Sanjay Yadav with the final ball in the 20th over, his horror officially began. The umpire called it a no-ball, giving the batsman a free hit and another life in the innings. Sanjay Yadav was then given the opportunity to hit the subsequent delivery for a six as Tanwar delivered another no-ball. Tanwar repeated his error and produced yet another no-ball, doing even more harm by giving Yadav two extra runs and letting him keep the strike.

The disastrous over continued with a wide delivery from Tanwar, subsequently followed by yet another no-ball, which allowed Yadav to hit another six. This sequence of events meant that Abhishek Tanwar, playing for the Salem Spartans, had the record for the most expensive final delivery of the innings.

Chepauk Super Gillies were able to set a lofty score of 217 runs as a result of this dreadful final delivery and over. Speaking of the game, the Salem Spartans failed and scored just 165 runs, as the challenge of chasing 218 appeared to be too big a total. The Chepauk Super Gillies won with a commanding 52-run margin to get their Tamil Nadu Premier League season off to a strong start. On the other hand, Abhishek Tanwar and Salem Spartans will be looking to forget about this game sooner rather than later and get ahead in the campaign.

Tanwar, though, was able to keep the record for the most costly ball produced in cricket history intact. Clint McKay still holds the record for most runs allowed in a single ball during a Big Bash League game between the Melbourne Stars and Hobart Hurricanes in 2012–2013.
