WATCH: David Warner makes Hollywood style return ahead of Big Bash League (BBL) at Sydney Cricket Ground
After bidding adieu to the Test cricket, the legendary Australian opener, David Warner made a fitting comeback onto the cricket field. The former Australian skipper Warner landed at the SCG via helicopter before the Sydney Thunder’s Big Bash League (BBL) encounter against the Sydney Sixers on Friday. Warner made the trip from his brother’s wedding in the Hunter Valley, touching down at the ground just before 5 pm. The helicopter was set down on the outfield, near the spot where the “Thanks Dave” logo was previously painted during his farewell Test.
Following these matches, Warner is scheduled to travel to the United Arab Emirates to join the Dubai Capitals in the ILT20 league. However, the fans can look forward to seeing him back in action on the Australian cricket scene, as he is expected to return for the Twenty20 series against West Indies from February 9 to 13. This series will serve as his concluding international games in Australia before his farewell appearance at the T20 World Cup in the Caribbean in June.
Warner’s notable return to the BBL stands in stark contrast to the unfortunate absence of English all-rounder Tom Curran, whose season with the Sydney Sixers concluded prematurely due to a knee injury. Curran is expected to miss the final two regular-season games, and there is a chance he may also be sidelined for his ILT20 commitments.

Warner signed a two-year deal with Thunders
Before the previous season, Warner inked a lucrative two-year deal with the Thunder as Cricket Australia aimed to bring international stars back into the tournament. Despite his Test retirement, Warner expressed his intention to make three appearances for Thunder this season, and he plans to fit these appearances around his commentary commitments for the India Test series.
The club has a slim chance of reaching the knockouts, but Warner would have been unavailable for those games as he is scheduled to participate in the ILT20 in the UAE. Nevertheless, he is now expected to return from that tournament to join the T20I series against West Indies, remaining available in that format before his final international retirement following the T20 World Cup in June.
