Watch: Ishan Kishan’s hilarious reply to getting selected in ODI World Cup 2023 squad leaves journalists in splits
In the third ODI against Bangladesh on December 10, Ishan Kishan created history. He became the only player to convert his maiden ODI hundred into a double hundred. Also, he hit the fastest double hundred in ODI cricket (126 balls), leaving behind Chris Gayle and Virender Sehwag. His innings helped the team reach more than 400 runs, a feat never achieved after Rohit Sharma’s 264 runs against Sri Lanka in 2014.
Meanwhile, after the game, he was speaking to the media. During the session, he was asked about his getting selected for the ODI World Cup 2023 team. Notably, the former India U19 skipper missed out on the 2022 20-20 World Cup bus. Meanwhile, in reply to the journalist’s question, Kishan said that he doesn’t think about the selection and wants his bat to do the talking. In the end, he cheekily said that he might get selected after hitting a double ton. His reply sent everyone in splits.
“I don’t know, I don’t think these things,” Ishan said. “All I can do is perform when I get a chance. I don’t want to talk. I want to let my bat do the talking. Whether there is a place for me or not. Aab 200 kiya hai kya pata (Now I’ve scored a double century so who knows)”

Shikhar Dhawan might get dropped from the ODI team: Reports
Meanwhile, in the last few months, Shikhar Dhawan hasn’t made any mark in ODI cricket. In the series against South Africa, New Zealand, and Bangladesh, he could hit only one fifty. Now, with Ishan hitting a double hundred, the selectors might look deeply into Dhawan’s future performance and take a call accordingly.
“A call on Shikhar’s future will only be taken after a new selection committee is appointed. But head coach Rahul Dravid and skipper Rohit Sharma’s views can’t be ignored,” a senior Indian Cricket Board source privy to developments was quoted as saying by Inside Sport.
