Watch: Marnus Labuschagne ‘fixing’ his helmet using ‘cigaratte lighter’ during third Test against South Africa
In the ongoing New Year’s Test match between Australia and South Africa, the home team is once again dominating. After taking the unassailable lead of 2-0 in the series, the Aussies are looking to clean-sweep the visitors. On the other hand, the Proteas are looking to avoid this situation. Meanwhile, during ongoing Day One of the game, something extremely hilarious went down that was caught on camera.
Apparently, Marnus Labuschagne was caught gesturing for a cigarette lighter. At this point, one of the commentators was heard guessing whether the right-hander would smoke a cigarette during a break. However, others said that Marnus might be looking to repair something inside the helmet. As it turned out, the commentators suggesting helmet fixing were true. Labuschagne did repair his helmet with a lighter.

Talking about the game, the Pat Cummins-led side won the toss and elected to bat first. At the toss, he said “It looks like a traditional SCG wicket. It might turn a bit so probably at it’s best on day one. We’ve got three changes. Cam Green and Starcy injury. Scott Boland misses out on this one. Josh Hazlewood, Matt Renshaw and Ash Agar come in.
Always difficult, especially having someone like Scott who has done fantastically well for us. We thought about [another seamer], it comes down to are we confident of taking 20 wickets with the four guys and in this case we are. This is as close as we’re going to get to India here in Australia so it would be good to see Ash have a go after a little while and Matty as well.”
However, they had a poor start as the previous game’s double-centurion, David Warner got out after scoring only 10 runs. The likes of Labuschagne and Usman Khawaja took the team to 138/1 before the rain interrupted the game. A few overs into the resumption, Labuschange was caught behind and with this, the game has been interrupted by rain for the second time in the day at the time of writing.
