 Watch: Teammates Of Mali’s Women’s National Team Get Into A Fight Among Themselves At The World Cup, Video Goes Viral

The 2022 FIBA Women’s Basketball World Cup is going on in Sydney, Australia from 22 September 2022. This is the 19th edition of FIBA’s premier international tournament for women’s national basketball teams. The tournament will go until 1 October 2022. On 26 September, the Women’s national team of Mali took on Serbia in this ongoing tournament. 

However, Mali lost the match to Serbia with a scoreline of 81-68. But, after the match, an unwanted incident took place as the video went viral all over social media platforms. Teammates of Mali’s Women’s national team Got involved in a fight among themselves. The incident took place while Serbia’s Sasa Cado was giving a post-match interview in the mixed zone.

Salimatou Kourouma and Kamite Elisabeth Dabou from the Women’s national team of Mali got involved in that fight

Speaking of that video, it was seen that the fight broke out between Mali’s Salimatou Kourouma and Kamite Elisabeth Dabou. However, the International Basketball Federation (FIBA) said that they were aware of that incident. While talking to Guardian Australia, a spokesperson from the FIBA said: “FIBA acknowledged today that there was an altercation between Mali players in the mixed zone following the Group B game Serbia-Mali at the FIBA Women’s Basketball World Cup 2022.”

“Following the incident, FIBA has opened an investigation. Once the investigation is concluded, FIBA will decide on any applicable disciplinary measures.” the spokesperson concluded. Speaking about Mali’s performance in the World Cup, they have lost their first five games of the tournament. As a result, Mali are now out of contention for the knockout stage.     

However, Mali qualified for this year’s World Cup as a late replacement for Nigeria. Nigeria pulled out due to current administrative difficulties around the sport in their country. Hence, It is the second ever World Cup in their history. Meanwhile, they faced Canada in the next match on 27 September 2022. But, they lost that game also with a scoreline of 65-88.
