Delhi Capitals kept their campaign alive in IPL 2023 as they defeated the defending champions Gujarat Titans by 5 runs in match number 44 of the season at the Narendra Modi Stadium in Ahmedabad. Choosing to bat first, DC could manage to score 130 runs for the loss of 8 wickets. In reply, the home team could only score 125 runs losing 6 wickets

DC had a disastrous start as Mohammed Shami dismissed Phil Salt on the very first ball of the match. In the next over, skipper David Warner got runout, giving DC a second blow. DC lost 5 wickets at the score of just 23 runs in five overs, thanks to Shami’s brilliance.

After that, Axar Patel and Aman Hakim Khan took charge of DC’s batting as they put up a partnership of 50 runs for the sixth. Patel got out after scoring 27 runs off 30 balls with two fours and a maximum. On the other hand, Aman went on to score his maiden IPL half-century as he got out in the 19th over after scoring 51 runs off 41 balls hitting three fours and three sixes.

At last, DC managed to touch 130 runs in their 20 overs. For GT, Mohammed Shami took 4 wickets, conceding only 11 runs in his four overs, while Mohit Sharma scalped 2 wickets and Rashid Khan put 1 in his bag.

GT got a disastrous start chasing a low total

Defending a low total, Khaleel Ahmed also struck for DC from the very first over by sending Wriddhiman Saha to the pavilion for a duck. GT lost 4 wickets for 32 runs in 6.4 overs. After that, skipper Hardik Pandya took the innings further along with Abhinav Manohar as they both added 62 runs for the fifth wicket.

After Manohar’s dismissal, Rahul Tewaita took charge as he smashed Anrich Nortje for three consecutive sixes in the last three balls of the penultimate over putting GT back into the game. The home side now required 12 runs off the last over to win.

On the fourth ball of the over, Ishant Sharma gave GT a huge blow by dismissing Tewatia by keeping the set batter Pandya on the strike. Pandya remained unbeaten on 59 runs off 53 balls hitting seven boundaries but couldn’t take his team down the line as they fell short of 5 runs from DC’s total.
