Yashasvi Jaiswal becomes leading run-scorer in ongoing series against England; Equals Virat Kohli’s record
India’s opening batter, Yashasvi Jaiswal becomes the leading run-scorer of the ongoing 5-match series against England. With this, he equalled Virat Kohli’s record of scoring most runs by an Indian batter in a bilateral series. Jaiswal is in red-hot form as he scored two double-centuries in the ongoing series against England. After winning the 4th Test match, India ceased the series, 3-1.
Jaiswal had scored 618 runs and was just 37 runs away from equalling Kohli’s record. He came to bat in the second innings of the 4th Test match. Previously, in the series against England in 2016, Kohli scored the most runs which was a record. Moreover, as the 22-year-old batter has equalled the record, it shows the confidence and effort he has put into the series.
The rise of Jaiswal which was seen in the series is a big plus point for India as they have a responsible batter apart from Rohit Sharma to rely on. Moreover, if he completes 700 runs in the series, he will become the 2nd batter after Sunil Gavaskar to reach the mark. Considering Jaiswal’s form, it might not be that difficult for him.
‘There was pressure from the outside not inside’ – Rohit Sharma opens up about team situation after 4th Test match
Captain Rohit Sharma had opened up about the team environment and how he felt that it would be difficult for them to fill in their shoes. While Virat Kohli was the captain, the team playing under him was extremely good and won in tough conditions. The way he motivated the players to perform well showed his captaincy skills.
Rohit, at the post-match presentation, said, “Those guys (Kohli and Co.) are proven players in every condition and to come in and fill their shoes was not easy for these guys. There was pressure from the outside not inside but I thought they responded very well to all the situations. When you make a mark like that, it holds you in a good position to have a long career. Performances like this will motivate them and make sure whenever the opportunity comes they are ready for it.”
