Indian Cricket Board secretary Jay Shah and Pakistan Cricket Board chairperson, Najam Sethi had a meeting over Asia Cup 2023. Both boards are having a disagreement over the venue of the tournament in the last few months. Apparently, Pakistan is set to host the tournament after 2008. On the other hand, the Indian Cricket Board has maintained that the board won’t be getting permission to travel to Pakistan.

Meanwhile, both Shah and Sethi decided to resolve this recently. They decided to have a meeting with the Asian Cricket Council over the matter on February 4. Notably, it was then reported that the continental tournament will be moved out of Pakistan. After all, given the political circumstances between both nations, it was highly unlikely that the Men In Blue would get permission. Also, the current economic situation of Pakistan wouldn’t have allowed the country to host the tournament.

Tempers flared up at the meeting between Jay Shah and Najam Sethi: Reports

During the meeting, it is reported that both Shah and Sethi had a heated exchange. The latter was adamant that the Asia Cup 2023 won’t be moved out of Pakistan. Also, the 74-year-old added his national side won’t travel to India for the ODI World Cup later this year.

“Tempers flared up at the meeting. Najam Sethi was rude to Jay Shah & said Pakistan team won’t travel to India for World CUP. Jay politely said that don’t mix World Cricket & ACC here”, revealed the ACC Official to InsideSport.

On the other hand, an ACC official said that the tournament will be moved out and they understand the Indian board’s situation.

“Tournament will 100% move out of Pakistan. All ACC Members understand Indian Cricket Board’s predicament and are with the Indian board”, confirmed the ACC Official.

Apart from this, the ACC issued a statement saying that all the members had a constructive dialogue over the matter. The update over this year’s Asia Cup will be given next month

“The ACC had a constructive dialogue on the upcoming Asia Cup 2023. The Board agreed to continue discussions on operations, timelines and any other specifics with a view to ensure the success of the tournament. An update on the matter would be taken on the next ACC Executive Board meeting to be held in March 2023,” said the ACC statement following the meeting.
